Monty MacMillan became interested in chainsaw sculpting after seeing a fellow artisan at work in British Columbia.
After 33 years of military service Monty was able to park his tank to enjoy his new hobby.
A self taught sculptor, Monty doesn’t consider himself an artist, but is driven by his love for creative woodwork.
Located in Maugerville, New Brunswick, Canada., Monty’s sculpted works have traveled to Europe and all over North America.
Each piece emerges from a white pine log. “I first create a rough form by standing the log upright, drawing in reference marks and shaping the layout of the work to be done. The finer details are then sculpted with smaller chainsaws and rotary hand power tools.” Sculptures are treated with a log home preservative.
